Do NOT use cotton swabs to clean your ears. Cotton swabs can push the earwax deeper into the ear, causing an impaction

Earwax collects dirt, debris and bacteria to help fight infections in and around our ears. It servers as a lubricant to keep our ears from getting dry and itchy, and also helps prevent foreign objects from getting in the ear.

Earwax build up consistency does change with age. There may be other factors like wearing ear buds or hearing aids that may make you more susceptible to earwax build up because wax cannot escape as easily on it’s own. If you notice more build up, we recommend adding cleanings as a regular preventative measure.
